How to Play DVD’s with VLC Automatically on Mac
November 24th, 2011 | Posted by in Downloads | Free Software | SoftwareIt is quite obvious that technology is moving in a rapid pace. Just a few years back, we were using CDs or compact discs to store data. Now, we have moved on to DVDs and Blu-Ray. DVD or Digital Versatile Disc can be compared to CDs. They have the same functions and mainly work in similar ways. However, DVDs have more capacity. They are greater in size. While CDs particularly the standard ones can hold bout 700 MB of data, DVDs have the ability to store more than 4 GB. They can go for as high as 17 GB. With such high capacities, one will not only be able to store songs and files but videos of large size.
When it comes to playing these DVDs, one way to do that is through the use of VLC media player. If you are a Mc user, you might want to know how to play DVD’s with VLC automatically. Most of the time, we have to find the DVD file before VLC can play it for us. Instead of doing that, you can simply insert the DVD into your drive and it will be played automatically.
So how do you play DVD’s with VLC without the need to press various buttons? First off, you will notice that in order for the free VLC player to start up, you will need to click on Play so that it will start on your computer. This is an easy task but it is not preferred by those who wish to play DVD’s with VLC on their Mac OS X.
You can go to the Apple Menu and then click on System Preferences then select CDs and DVDs. When you click it, a dialog box will appear asking you what to do on certain instances. These include inserting a blank CD, blank DVD, picture CD, sound CD and video DVD. For this operating system, you already know that there is a multimedia player pre-installed on your computer.
If you wish that VLC is instantly started up instead of your other DVD player, click on the Open DVD Player menu from the same dialog box. Then, pick Open Other Application. IN the Applications folder, be able to locate VLC and click on Choose.
The task is not too difficult especially if you do not mind modifying your file system. Nevertheless, this is way more convenient than having to find the DVD file yourself and pressing the Play button. Each time you insert a disc into your drive, you will be able to play DVD’s with VLC automatically with no problems at all.
